Community interventions improve diabetes management and oral health in type 2 diabetes patients with chronic periodontitis

In 2021, 537 million adults had diabetes, mostly Type 2, often linked with chronic periodontitis, which worsens blood sugar control. Yet, oral health is often neglected in diabetes care. Poor awareness hinders self-management, while better education and self-efficacy improve outcomes.
This study tested a community-based self-management program for T2DM patients with periodontitis. Results support integrating oral health into diabetes care to improve control, quality of life, and overall health.
